The Colobus Trust is a conservation organisation designed to promote the conservation, preservation and protection of primates like the rare Angolan Colobus monkey (Colobus angolensis palliatus) and its coastal forest habitat in southern Kenya. The Trust has numerous projects concerning the wildlife and the citizens of Kenya, including animal welfare, biological/ecological research, community development and education, forest protection and enrichment and eco-tourism awareness programs.

The Cheetah Conservation Fund  (CCF) works to create and manage long-term conservation strategies for the cheetah throughout their range; to develop and implement better livestock management practices, to conduct conservation education, and to continue intensive scientific research in cheetah genetics, biology and species survival.

Local Ocean Trust-Watamu Turtle Watch

Their aim is to conserve Kenyan marine resources and their work consists of hands-on conservation, research, education, and campaigning and community development. The involvement of the local community is an essential part of this work.

As a volunteer you will be involved in the following activities: net releases, beach patrols, nest excavations and hatchling runs, caring for sick turtles, data entry, education etc. You will find an application form here.


Based on Diani beach, the East African Whale Shark Trust EAWST was founded in 2005 in response to the increase in the whale shark population along the Kenyan coast as well as increased interest from the tourist sector. Peak season for whale shark sighting is between November and March.

As a volunteer you will help with the education programme in schools and hotels, assist with fundraising, assist with data collection and analysis, and assist the guides on whale shark safaris, and help in the Fibre-Glass Turtle workshop. For further details please contact nimu@giantsharks.org.
